Banjo, fiddle and upright bass players performing at a sunny outdoor bluegrass festival

AT A GLANCE
When: Saturday, April 3, 2027, 2-7 p.m.
Where: KT Deck, Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley
Cost: Free

A Little Dose of WonderGrass brings a free afternoon of live bluegrass to the KT Deck at Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, April 3, 2027, from 2-7 p.m. Palisades Tahoe and WinterWonderGrass are teaming up once again to put it on, and it's an easy way to cap a spring ski day in Olympic Valley.

What A Little Dose of WonderGrass Is Like

Think of it as a spring party with a banjo soundtrack. Palisades bills the afternoon as a high-energy bluegrass gathering against the iconic backdrop of the KT Deck, and by early April the days are long and bright enough to make the most of it. Expect a mix of skiers and riders fresh off the mountain, locals who came just for the music and families soaking up the sun, with plenty of people dancing on the deck as the afternoon goes on. The show is meant to celebrate the shift from winter to spring, and it runs into what Palisades calls golden-hour après, when the light turns warm and nobody is in a hurry to leave. It comes from WinterWonderGrass, a bluegrass gathering that has been held in mountain towns across North America for more than a decade, so this one-afternoon version has a real festival feel without a festival ticket.

Event Highlights

The music is the main event, with five hours of live bluegrass from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Palisades hasn't announced the 2027 lineup yet, so check the event page closer to April to see who's playing. The timing is the other highlight. The show starts mid-afternoon, after a morning on the mountain, and carries on into the evening, so you can ski, catch a few sets and head into the Village for dinner without changing plans. And because there's no ticket, you can drop in for one set or stay for the whole thing.

Cost and What to Bring

A Little Dose of WonderGrass is free, so there's nothing to buy ahead of time. Bring layers. Olympic Valley sits around 6,200 feet, and an early-April afternoon on the deck can feel warm in the sun and cold the minute a cloud rolls through, especially as the show heads toward 7 p.m. Sunglasses and sunscreen matter too, since spring sun reflects hard off the snow. If you're skiing first, sort out where your gear will go before the music starts so you're not carrying skis around the deck.

Parking and Getting There

April 3, 2027 falls on one of the last weekends of Palisades' 2026-27 parking reservation program, which runs through April 11. On reservation days, all resort lots need a reservation before 1 p.m., and that includes people heading to the Village without skiing. After 1 p.m., parking is free and no reservation is needed, which works well for a 2 p.m. show. If you're coming for a full ski day, free weekend reservations are released every Tuesday, half at noon and half at 7 p.m. Pacific, and cars with four or more people can book a carpool reservation that comes with a $20 resort credit. TART's Highway 89 bus is free and runs daily between Tahoe City and Truckee with stops in Olympic Valley, and the free Mountaineer on-demand shuttle serves Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows.

Local tip: Planning to ride the free TART Park & Ride shuttle from Tahoe City or Truckee? Palisades' 2026-27 parking page lists return shuttles until 5:45 p.m., more than an hour before the music ends, so confirm the schedule before you go. If you want to stay for the full show, drive in after 1 p.m., when parking is free with no reservation, or check the TART Highway 89 schedule for a later bus.

Check the lineup and details on the Palisades Tahoe event page.
